'Guest Corner'

From 8 June 2015 the paper counterpart portion of the photo card licence will be officially withdrawn.

At the same time paper driving licences will no longer be updated with motoring convictions. From then on the records held by the DVLA will be the only way of checking endorsements.

So as an employer, how can you check that your employees are entitled to drive?  How will you know if an employee has convictions which need to be notified to your fleet or motor insurer?

The DVLA already provide an online ‘View Driving Licence’ service and before the new system comes into place in June they will also provide an additional service called ‘Share Driving Licence’.   By logging into the View Driving Licence website, drivers can generate a code which will allow their employer to access licence details on the Share Driving Licence website and therefore be able to see the driver’s licence status, endorsements and what vehicles they can drive.

It will be worth adapting your driver checking procedures to incorporate these steps.
