Plenty of sleep
Sleep is really important for our physical and mental health. Sleep helps to regulate the chemicals in our brain that transmit information. These chemicals are important in managing our moods and emotions. If we don't get enough sleep, we can start to feel depressed or anxious.
Eat well
Eating well is important for our bodies but also our minds. Certain mineral deficiencies such as iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies can cause low mood. If feeling anxious or stressed, limit caffeine intake.
Drink sensibly, smoking and drugs.
Excessive drinking for prolonged periods can leave you with a thiamine deficiency, this is important for brain function and deficiency can lead to severe memory problems, eye problems and co-ordination issues.
If you smoke, then between cigarettes your body and brain can go into withdrawal which may make you irritable and anxious
Other drugs can cause very low mood and anxiety, more severe effects of drugs can include paranoia and delusions.
Get plenty of sunlight.
Vitamin D is very important for our bodies and our brains. Helps our brains release chemicals which improve our mood, like endorphins and serotonin.
Manage Stress
Stress is often unavoidable but knowing what triggers your stress and knowing how to cope with it helps!
Keep Active
Regular exercise is essential in maintaining good mental health. It boosts the chemicals in our brains and puts us in a good mood. Helps eliminate low mood, anxiety stress etc
Make time for things that you enjoy / Help others
Hobbies - set time aside to participate in things that you enjoy doing.
Support other people, maybe volunteer
